Polytrauma is the leading cause of death under the age of 50 and 60% of survivors suffer from relevant disabilities, such as delayed or non-healing of fractures, years after polytrauma. The reasons for this have not been adequately researched, but it is known that there is a direct connection between polytrauma and fracture healing, since the same cytokines are released in the inflammatory reaction after polytrauma as in the fracture healing process. However, there are no studies that examine fracture healing after polytrauma in a standardized manner over time. Therefore, the aim of the study is to investigate fracture healing over a post-traumatic course of 21 days in a murine polytrauma model that is comparable to the clinical reality.
