The EKFS presents the Else Kröner Fresenius Award for Development Cooperation in Medicine once a year in recognition of special achievements in the area of development cooperation. Projects all over the world which serve to improve healthcare in an outstanding manner are honoured.

The award is endowed with 100,000 euros – money that is utilised directly for the projects. Each year the award is announced with reference to a different topical emphasis; announcement of the competition takes place in the spring.
