Mental Health Support via the ucare.me online platform

Situation:
Before the Russian invasion in 2022, Ukraine already had a high mental health burden. Mental disorders were the second leading cause of disability, affecting 30% of the population. The war has exacerbated this issue: Estimates suggest that 15 million people require psychological assistance, while the existing healthcare system is overwhelmed.
Objectives:
Improving access to free psychological services for vulnerable groups in Ukraine via the ucare.me platform.
- 3,300 online consultations were conducted by the project’s end.
- 80% of patients show improvement in mental health, measured by a reduction in the PHQ-9 score by at least one level.
- 1.35 million people in Ukraine are reached through 12 psycho-educational campaigns on social media.
Ucare.me is an online platform that unites qualified and certified psychologists and psychotherapists who provide free psychological services to the vulnerable target group via a mobile application or web. The project activities include the following:
- Providing 3,300 psychological counselling sessions over 12 months.
- 12 psycho-education campaigns on social media to inform about symptoms of psychological disorders, ways of their treatment and to fight the stigmatization of mental health disorders in Ukraine.
The project promotes sustainable mental healthcare through close collaboration with local partners, government agencies, and NGOs. Revenue from paid counseling services for companies ensures the long-term operation of the platform.
Innovative online approach to providing psychological assistance in a war-affected country, which to a limited extent also reaches people in Russian-occupied territories.
