The prize is endowed with 2.5 million euros - one of the greatest prize moneys worldwide. It honours researchers who made significant scientific contributions in their fields and whose work in the future expects to yield pathbreaking findings.

The Else Kröner Fresenius Prize for Medical Research was presented for the first time in 2013 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Else Kröner’s death. Since then, it has been awarded regularly. The next prize will be awarded on June 4, 2020.
