The development of primary liver cancer is a common and dismal endpoint of the majority of chronic liver diseases. Over the recent years, a considerable rise in incidence of major chronic liver diseases including liver cancer is recognized in the Western world. The goal of the Else Kröner Research Training Group Mainz is to establish a multidisciplinary consortium of scientists and clinicians covering the required expertise in research on liver disease, (liver) cancer and the innate and adaptive immune system in general and in (liver) cancer. The central objective of this initiative is to stimulate interest of young clinicians for translational research, help them interact with basic researchers and other disciplines and promote their development as clinician-scientists.
