Else Kröner-Forschungskolleg AntiAge: Interdisciplinary cooperation in ageing research

The demographic change leads to a steady increase of elderly patients in daily clinical practice, who often suffer from age-associated diseases involving several organs. In order to be able to treat this group of patients professionally, we need researching physicians from various disciplines who can address specific scientific questions as well as clinical tasks. The task of the interdisciplinary research program is to better prepare young physicians for this demanding clinical-scientific task through a structured qualification program and systematically promote their careers. For this, the fellows are given the opportunity to conduct their own research project in ageing research.  In this way, clinician scientists can address new research concepts and contribute to an improved clinical care of patients.

The scientific aim of the research program is the development of interventional strategies for the treatment of age-associated dysfunctions in various organs. We will promote the recovery from diseases in old age or at least to prevent their progression. The interdisciplinary approach in a coordinated research program should make it possible to identify molecular mechanisms and strategies across organs.
