The increase in immune-mediated and autoimmune diseases poses a significant challenge for healthcare systems. However, understanding of the underlying mechanisms remains limited. The iPRIME College adopts a research approach that integrates three levels: organ-specific immunity, systemic immune response, and inter-organ communication. In this context, the College aims to analyze immune processes to identify new therapeutic targets. The program combines clinical observations with cutting-edge research to translate insights from these immune processes into new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. The College’s training approach is based on personalized career plans, intensive mentoring and interdisciplinary networking among early-career researchers from basic science and medicine. At the UKE, EKFS-funded colleges are already established, where the applicant, Prof. Huber, also serves as spokesperson (including the doctoral iPRIME college for medical students and the iPRIME college for clinician scientists). All programs focus on immune-mediated and autoimmune diseases. This forms a unique, interdisciplinary EKFS cluster that, with its thematic focus and central management, promises effective interactions, thereby strengthening the bridge between basic science and clinical practice.
