The college deals with the question of how the human genome and epigenome change when long-term dysfunction in cellular and systemic signaling pathways occur due to disease. For example, diseases of metabolism, of the nervous system or cancer are investigated. With this topic, the college builds on the long-standing research and training expertise of the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) in the field of molecular cell biology. Our concept of understanding and investigating diseases as "diseases of the genome" offers the fellows of the college the opportunity to apply cutting-edge molecular and cell biology technologies to current clinical problems.
This Medical Scientist College will be essential for the promotion of young talent at the UMG and will help advance the careers of natural scientists in clinically oriented research. Young postdocs will be paired with experienced clinicians to work on translational projects and pursue scientific independence. The college’s training program will be individualized, with particular emphasis on interdisciplinarity and on new clinical research insights.
