The Else Kröner-Fresenius Foundation is dedicated to the promotion of medical research and support of medical-humanitarian Projects. The EKFS is one of the largest foundations in Germany. It is registered in Bad Homburg v.d.H. The foundation was set up in 1983 by the entrepreneur Else Kröner, who left all her assets to the foundation.
Nearly all revenue comes from dividend payments by the healthcare company Fresenius, in which the foundation is the major shareholder. To date, the foundation has supported more than 1,660 projects with a total volume of about 315 million euros.
