The Else Kröner-Fresenius-Stiftung is dedicated to advancing medical research as well as medical-humanitarian aid. As a major shareholder of the healthcare group Fresenius, the foundation`s income consists in dividends from these shares. As stipulated in its statutes, the foundation will only support research projects which make their findings available to the public.
Else Kröner was one of Germany’s most successful entrepreneurs. She built the global healthcare group Fresenius out of the Hirsch Apotheke (apothecary) and a small pharmaceutical business in Frankfurt. When Else Kröner died on 5 June 1988, all of her assets were at her behest left to the non-profit foundation set up in 1983.
