Postponed: Else Kröner Fresenius Prize for Medical Research 2020 & Symposium

Due to the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic we have decided to postpone the originally scheduled presentation of the Else Kröner Fresenius Prize for Medical Research on June 4, 2020 until next year. The award ceremony is expected to take place on May 31, 2021.
Else Kröner Fresenius Prize for Medical Research 2020

The announcement prizewinner for 2020, who shall be honoured for his or her work in the field of "Genome Editing and Gene Therapy", was made digitally on 4 June 2020. Prof. Dr. Alessandro Aiuti, a physician and research scientist based in Milan is the winner of the Else Kröner Fresenius Prize for Medical Research 2020, which is awarded by the EKFS in recognition of Aiuti's significant scientific contributions to the development of gene therapies.

At a sum of 2.5 million euros, the Else Kröner Fresenius Prize for Medical Research is one of the world’s most highly endowed international prizes for research. You can learn more about the prize here.

A scientific symposium in honor of the prizewinner where we bring together the world’s leading researchers in the fields of "Genome Editing and Gene Therapy" takes place on the day of the award presentation. The symposium will equally be postponed until May 31, 2021.

Prize Presentation: May 31, 2021 in Frankfurt am Main

The Else Kröner Fresenius Prize for Medical Research 2020 is going to be presented to Prof. Dr. Alessandro Aiuti in the course of a festive ceremony in Frankfurt am Main.

Frankfurt am Main (the exact location shall be announced on a timely basis)

Within the framework of the festivities the foundation is also hosting a scientific symposium on the topic of “Genome Editing and Gene Therapy” on the same day (see below).

Symposium: May 31, 2021 in Frankfurt am Main

The international symposium in honor of the prize-winner brings together the world’s leading researchers in the fields of "Genome Editing and Gene Therapy". The program encompasses highly up-to-date subjects: from genome editing to vector biology, all the way to clinical applications in the case of genetic disorders.
